Çayan Demirel

Çayan Demirel was born in Istanbul in 1977. After completing his degree at the Faculty of Economics, he started working in documentary film in the year 2000 with oral history projects. In 2006 he completed his documentary 38 about the Dersim events, and he established SURELA FILM PRODUCTION in 2008. In 2009 he won the “Best Documentary” award for his film Prison Number 5: 1980 – 84 at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, the Ankara Film Festival and SİYAD. His documentary entit led Dr. Şivan (2013) is about the life of Dr. Sait Kırmızıtoprak, a Kurdish intellectual who lived between 1935 – 1971 and who was the founder of the first leftist Kurdish guerilla movement. Çayan Demirel’s documentaries have been shown at many international film festivals, universities and NGO’s. BAKUR is the director’s latest feature length documentary.

Lia Tarchansky

She is an award-winning Israeli filmmaker and journalist. She is the former Israel/Palestine correspondent for The Real News Network (TRNN) where she produced short, documentary-style reports exploring the context behind the news.

Sahraa Karimi

Sahraa Karimi is a young female Afghan filmmaker who grew up in Iran. In her early twenties, she migrated to Slovakia, and spent the next 12 years studying for Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degrees in film and directing. When she returned to Afghanistan, Karimi co-founded the Kapila Multimedia House to promote independent cinema and has recently re-opened the Kaluch Kapila Cinema. Karimi continues to live between Kabul, Bratislava, and Tehran. Her films, mostly about civil rights issues faced by women in Afghanistan, have won international awards and are frequently screened in international film festivals.

Thomas Correa

French & Colombian, Thomas is director and photographer. He is involved in documentary works, particularly about South America urbanisation, using both photographs, videos and paper editing to construct his works. He recently received the Young Creation Award 2017 by the Art Center Le Pavillon Blanc of Colomiers, France. He is living in Medellin, Colombia and France.

Siyamak Ghaffari

Moved to Canada in 1991 and graduated from the Vancouver Film School (2D Animation) in 1996. He worked with mercury film works, on TV shows and movies for years. He is a painter as well. Moved to Penticton in 2015, and now he is a full time artist living and making art in Penticton.

Samara Sallam

Samara Sallam (b. 1991) is Palestinian Syrian, who currently lives in Odense, where she is a student at Funen Art Academy.

She studied journalism at Damascus University, and worked as a conceptual photographer and journalist until she moved to Algeria 2012, where she studied Fine Art at The Superior School of Fine Arts in Algiers.

Sallam has been awarded two first prizes in photography from France in 2012 and Belgium 2013.

Rahman Milani

He is from Iran and studied theatre and film in Oslo, before making his first short film in 2001. His first feature film “Seahorses” was made in 2007 and it was screened at the Exile Film Festival.

Majid Amiri

2006 he went to the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, and after passing the film course, he began making short films including animation and documentary, such as “It is from us that is to us” (animation), “Birth in 120th Second”, “The Friend”, “Dance of the Earth” and the last one is “So Easy”.
